Winter Vacations Extended in KP Due to Severe Cold

The Education Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has extended winter vacations for all educational institutions across the province by one week, according to ARY News.

The decision was prompted by a severe cold wave that has caused a significant drop in temperatures, raising concerns for students' health, especially during early morning school hours. As per the notification, schools will now reopen on January 7, 2025, instead of the previously scheduled January 1, 2025.

Previously, KP authorities had announced winter vacations from December 22 to December 31 for plain areas, while schools in hilly regions were to remain closed until February 28.

In Punjab, the government declared 20 days of winter vacations, from December 20, 2024, to January 10, 2025, for all public and private schools. Additionally, the Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued directives requiring schools to provide pick-and-drop services for students post-holidays to address the smog situation.

These measures reflect the growing concern for students' well-being amid harsh weather and environmental challenges.
